  • End of the Month Roundup

    June 30th, 2026

Well, here we are. June 30th. End of the Month.

I figure today is a good day to reflect on what’s been a few months of just, absolute nonstop, inability to focus on the things I prefer to focus on. Like writing. Gaming. Life beyond just “prep for the next thing.”

Breaking my nose of course kicked off the few months. Then prepping the basement. Then freaking out over every last plumbing issue. You know the drill. Plus, needing a new computer! Oops. Oh right, to cap EVERYTHING off, my computer died and I had to get a new one. Great. Perfect. In theory, I could have gotten it repaired, but I’ll be honest, that thing probably got microwaved late last year when SERVPRO came out and ran their fans and the dehumidifiers. That motherboard almost certainly was on its deathbed from November until now.

So where does this leave me now as July starts tomorrow?

    Well, a few key places.

    1. I have to start my writing process over again. Like many a writer who lacks the full discipline as of yet, when I’m on, I’m ON. But when I’m off, it’s hard to turn back on. It’s mostly discipline, I need to start blocking off my mornings, and start writing again. It’s that simple.

Now that the floor is done, the plumbing is solved, I’m sleeping in my basement, I’m drinking way more water and cutting out soda, and overall trying to get back into the groove, I can start my process. My PLAN is to start evaluating everything, giving a once over on my current draft, and start writing as early as Friday, July 3rd, though there’s a good chance I’ll really start the process on Monday.
    2. Hobbying of course, is a thing I won’t give up. Warhammer is near and dear to my heart, both with my Warhammer 40k Orks, my Age of Sigmar Stormcast Dragon Army, and my Ironjawz in that game. I’m working on the new Armageddon Ork set, but while the creativity to paint (even if I’m terrible at it) may come to me easily right now, it will take a BIG back seat to my writing once the process starts. I’ll write for an hour or two and IF I have time before work in the morning, I’ll paint. Or I’ll save it for the evening.
    3. Gaming. I love gaming. I play computer games, MMOs, single player, etc. What I don’t do, and haven’t done for years is let the gaming define my time. I used to in my 20s, and before, but nowadays, gaming is the excess.

Did I write in the morning? Check. Do I have a few minutes before work, but not enough to hobby? Okay I’ll play a game.

Did I write in the morning? Check. Did I work all day, and maybe I’m too tired to hobby, but don’t want to fall into the “I’m staring at youtube and falling asleep early” vortex? Okay, I’ll play a game.

Is it the weekend and I have plans but not until later, or it’s after my plans and I’m back home? Now I’ll really play a game.

Gaming is my extra hobby. I’ll log into Warcraft, or Guild Wars 2, I’ll continue my Baldur’s Gate 3 campaign, or go krump someone in a Warhammer Total War run when I either have done what I want to do in my other hobbies OR I’m tired OR have nothing else to do.

Now, there is an observation I’ve noticed. While I haven’t been writing, the creativity has not fled me, and it’s led to me dreaming up new worlds, new stories, new characters. As any writer can probably identify with, I am quick to latch on to those new ideas, see where they can go, and then neatly put them on a shelf ready to be looked at later.

You may see in the coming days or weeks new pages on my website, where I discuss some of these ideas in process. Make no mistake, Dragonsoul is my baby, my heart and soul when it comes to my writing projects, but I would be remiss if I did not entertain these other ideas in my spare time when the inspiration strikes. I may muse about them in future posts, but make no mistake, when the process starts as early as Friday, it will be all Dragonsoul when it comes to the writing time.

    See you in July!

  • Floors, Leaks, Oh My!

    June 16th, 2026

So. If you recall, I said I might not be as consistent as I’d like. When I last posted, and totally forgot to actually LAUNCH the site, I said that I was in the middle of getting the basement floor done, which could then be the GO SIGN to begin writing again.

Your best laid plans tend to get thrown off track. The floor is done. My awesome friends helped me with setting up my computer and hobby space. But two days later I discovered a leak. And that leak came in two parts. A pipe got loose and was leaking condensation from the HVAC. And our tankless water heater died. Yay for the stress of being a basement dweller. So that had to be fixed.

Fortunately, it was. And then we had stormy day after stormy day. I worked an extra day of work because we had our work fundraiser, which was incredibly fun to attend even if I was starting to feel run down. I have run myself ragged over cleaning the basement, then having to make sure everything is right for the floor guys just to find the leaks, and stress about one other thing – the sump pump, which somehow survived well past its prime, and was replaced yesterday.

I have run myself so ragged I have a cold. It’s gross. It’s post nasal nasty drip. But here we are. No writing updates, just an update on how things have gone. Now, I have a lot on my plate this week.

Obviously, today is Tuesday so I’ll be headed into work soon. But tomorrow, I get my new bedset furniture delivered and set up right in the basement where I return to being a basement dweller entirely. Thank goodness. We’re also switching to fiber internet. So that’ll be a thing tomorrow too.

    Work on Thursday.

Friday is the day I plan on fixing my hobby space. I have all my minis and models and such splayed out on the table behind me, and I’m going to organize them because Saturday is when Warhammer 40,000 has its 11th edition launch box, and I’m getting my hands on a whole lot of Orks.

So long as I can shake off this mini cold I’ve gotten, (and based on how I feel today versus yesterday, I should be good,) Monday begins what is long overdue. A return to work on the draft. Dragonsoul awaits.

… as well as some other side projects. Because I’m a multitasker. Except when it comes to juggling the blog. Yeah yeah I know. Back at you soon!

  • New Blog, New Me (Well, Not Really)

    June 5th, 2026

Once upon a time I bit off more than I could chew. I purchased a domain, and a really good website provider, but it was expensive, and I was not keeping up. You see, I was writing my first, then second, then third drafts during this time. I didn’t give myself time to blog.

So, for those who don’t remember who I am or what I write, my name is Jason and I’ve been working on my Dragonsoul project now for over two years, going on three. Life’s been HECTIC in 2026, some good, some not so good, and mostly disruptive towards my writing process.

Late last year, my basement got flooded not once, not twice, but three times. Twice from a bad door letting in water, and the third from a pipe deciding it didn’t like working. Needless to say, that was disruptive, but it didn’t entirely throw me off my writing. I still managed to squeeze the writing in – after all, my laptop still works, and my desktop wasnt damaged.

But, life has a way of being well, life. I went through an uncomfortable breakup, I broke my nose (for my fellow nerds out there, I rolled a nat 1 getting out of bed,) and then of course, I’ve been working to clean up the basement in prep for new floors (which will be complete today!)

So, I’m at the end of a long road of just, lots of things keeping me from doing my thing. I’m admittedly very routine and regimented, and with a new cleaned up space I’ll be able to settle in and do what I love best… writing.

I don’t know how active I’ll be here. I’m not going to promise I’ll be active every day, or every week, or even every month. There may be times I post multiple times a week, or once a week, or once every few weeks or few months, it depends. But right now, I’m here, and I hope you join me for the ride!
